Nationals & Residents Entering from Unapproved Countries Still Must Quarantine

Last Thursday, the Minister of Tourism declared during the press conference that “Costa Rica is going to eliminate the requirement of a negative PCR test both for foreign tourists and Costa Ricans, and that these people won’t receive a sanitary isolation order upon entry. Nevertheless, once the Decree was officially issued yesterday, we found it states that “the officials of the General Directorate of Migration and Immigration are designated and empowered to exercise migration control at airports and for the corresponding 14-day sanitary isolation orders to be issued to residents and nationals.”

The written Decree confirms that between now, and until November 1st, Costa Rican nationals and residents who are flying in from non-authorized countries or states will be obliged to complete a mandatory 14-day quarantine at home. If you are planning on entering the country during between now and the end of the month you will need to comply with the 14-day at-home quarantine order.

Starting November 1st, 2020, all countries will be deemed authorized and this quarantine matter is expected to no longer apply. However, an official decree has not yet been released to confirm this. We will continue to prove updates as news becomes available.
