Better Days Will Come

To say we are living in strange and scary times is an understatement. This COVID19 crisis has everyone worried and stressed and rightfully so.

But amidst all of the ugliness, we must not forget that this will pass and that things will soon settle down. Consequently, we must not lose our goals or plans from view.

Now is a time to plan, prepare and execute what can be executed, to take advantage of the time we have to push certain goals forward. Many expats have expressed their desire to move to Costa Rica once this COVID19 crisis is over and have asked us what they can do now to get the ball rolling. Luckily and until further notice, plenty can be done. For example, we are still assisting our Residency clients with the procurement and apostille of vital records in the US. The forms we need to secure birth and marriage certificates in the US can be completed from the comfort of your home. We are also sending documents for signature through email and working through Correos de Costa Rica to receive originals. We continue assisting with the legalization of documents, for example, Canadian birth and marriage certificates. Renewals can still be processed at Correos or BCR, Powers of Attorney for applications and change of categories from Temporary to Permanent can still be signed, we are still assisting with marriages… We are trying to be creative so that we can continue to help while being safe.

Many expats have followed this approach to, as mentioned, take advantage of the time and be ready or as close to ready as possible once the Immigration Department reopens on May 18^th , 2020.

Evidently, we may experience delays along the way during this ever-changing situation, but it brings our clients and us satisfaction to know that we are activating processes.

It is, at the very least, a nicer way to pass the time and battle through the anxiety that this situation has brought upon all of us.

This is a time for reflection, to take care of yourself and each other, but it is also a time of opportunities. It is a chance for you to make decisions and for us to accompany and guide you through them. Just as Emily Dickinson once said, I dwell in possibility. That is a magnificent thought for these crazy days.
